Musings on Writing

As you know, I like writing. What you may not know, however, is that I also like thinking very deeply about things. (Yes. "Things" is the technical term.) As you can tell from the title of this post, the two recently came together. This is what resulted:

When you're a writer, you can do anything. That's sort of obvious, I know, but it really is profound when you think about it. As a writer, you can shape someone's entire personality. Events are caused because of the mood you're in at the time. Someone could die just because of a whim you had. I've been happily writing ever since I was very small, and I did know on some level the power I held so casually in my hands, but I had not felt the need before recently to sit down and ponder its immensity. Now I'm just a little bit nervous to write again. With me being the way I am, it's like my characters are all real people who just happen to never be around or something like that. They're really really real. I feel like if I do something bad to the ones in the book I'm currently putting the most effort into, they'll come and make me pay... Or maybe I'm somewhat disconnected from reality as well as being eccentric...

In Praise of William Shakespeare

One of my classes (I attend a charter school) is centered around the Renaissance, so we are currently studying a play by this William Shakespeare. It is called Henry IV. I know many people have come to fear reading Shakespeare's works for thousands of different reasons, but I personally enjoy reading plays by this fascinating man very much. They way Shakespeare uses language is just beautiful. As in watching-the-sun-set-over-the-ocean beautiful. Maybe even more beautiful than that. Yes, the terms and words may be kind of foreign to us, but one of my wonderful teachers says there is no need to understand every little bit of the dialogue. I think everyone who can read should remember this, and that the modern world should simply read more Shakespeare.

Every time I begin to read something Shakespeare wrote, a ray of sunlight pours from the sky and surrounds me with an angelic light. (Not really, but that would be kind of cool.) This shows how highly I think of Shakespeare. I only wish more people would think of him the same way.

Now, to end this post, I need to add something about Shakespeare's insults. I haven't gotten that far in Henry IV, but I have still come across so very many insults. They're excellent. I want to call someone a "mad-headed ape" sometime soon. I have a feeling I'll get the chance the next time my brother starts to annoy me...

The First Post

This is the first post in my new blog.

Here I will be practical and tell you about the things I will be posting:

-Lists of all sorts of things, just because I like making lists.
-Things about art.
-Things about stuff I find interesting. They include animals, fencing and horseback riding, writing, and other stuff.
-Book reviews.

Now I will say something incredibly important. It is also very meaningful.

You should always take a banana to a party.

You are awesome if you got that. If you didn't get that, you are still awesome (because I am nice) but I think it is unfortunate that you didn't get that.

OK. That's enough for now.

Avery

P.S. Can you see now why I call myself an eccentric artist?
